WELCOME to the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment page.

Here you will find information about the Garfield Re-2 Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment. Be patient as we continue to build the information on these pages.

The information below and on the pages to the left will hopefully help parents and community members learn more about the programs and assessments that we give our students and how this data is used.

Assessment in Garfield Re-2

In January of 2016, Garfield Re-2 convened an Assessment Design Team, composed of teachers, specialists, academic coaches, and administrators to begin work on improving our assessment system.

One outcome of that work to create a vision and set of beliefs that guide us in our assessment work:

The Garfield Re 2 vision for assessment is to provide students, families, and teachers with timely, actionable data and tools to support and improve effective instruction and provide meaningful performance reporting on the Colorado Academic Standards.

Beliefs:

  • A balanced assessment system values formative, interim, and summative data.
  • The right tools and systems allow teachers and students to engage in assessment AS learning.
  • We will avoid unnecessary duplication and over-testing of students.
  • A balanced assessment system ensures the timely return of data from formative and interim assessments.
  • A balanced assessment system ensures that students engage with a wide variety of rich assessment tasks and questions aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Students, teachers, and parents must understand student assessment data, set goals, and monitor progress toward those goals.
